Scott Allan has insisted that Hibernian Nectarios Triantis did well to win the ball despite his yellow card against Rangers at Ibrox on 29 September.
The Australian midfielder slipped into a challenge on Robin Propper, leaving the crowd screaming for a red card in the 1-0 win.
VAR did check the decision and backed Nick Walsh, with Allan admitting that nobody would have pulled out of the challenge with the ball getting away.
Speaking live on BBC Sportsound, as shared on their live blog [29 September, 12:31], Allan said: “He does well to win the ball.
“It’s getting away from him. Ask any footballer, they can’t pull out of that one.
“Hibs are unhappy because the players don’t think it was bad and they were on the attack.”
Controversy out of nothing at Rangers?
While the tackle was slightly reckless, it was clear that Triantis did slip and the yellow card plus foul was enough at the time.
Of course, Hibs would feel aggrieved as they would have been through on goal, but touching the ball doesn’t automatically make it a fair tackle anymore.
It was over the top from Triantis and the incident was forgotten moments later.
Philippe Clement watching on wanted to keep things calm, with the schedule clearly catching up with his players who looked lethargic from the first whistle.
The win is all that matters, with another big Europa League tie coming up against Lyon, which Mohamed Diomande will miss, so no more problems will be welcomed.
Propper recovered just fine after the incident and helped his side to another clean sheet and three wins, which is all that matters right now.
