Rangers need to accept Dave King’s two-year plan and let him back in as chairman at Ibrox, according to Derek Ferguson.

Since John Bennett had to resign from the role for medical reasons the South Africa-based King has been scathing in his criticism of the current Gers board [Rangers Review, 16 September] while talking up his own plans to bring in foreign investment as part of a pitch to be the man to put the club back on the right track [Rangers Review, 15 September].

The board are not thought to be in favour of bringing him back in [Daily Record, 16 September] and interim chair John Gilligan has publicly urged him to tone down his criticism and “behave like a proper shareholder” [BBC Sport, 23 September].

But ex-Ibrox midfielder Ferguson believes those involved need to put their personal issues with King aside and prioritise what is best for the club.

He exclusively told Ibrox News: “He says already he’s got a two-year plan. A lot of people are saying, ‘Oh but we need stability’. But if he can come in and get the right people in the right positions within the club, get a bit of investment in, why would you want to knock that back?

“I get that he’s no everybody’s cup of tea but that’s life, that happens in football, you don’t sometimes see eye to eye with people but you’ve got to look at the betterment of the football club.

“Personally, I think it’s a no-brainer, I think you get him in.”

John Gilligan has responded to Dave King Rangers criticisms

Philippe Clement and the players have finally started to restore some order on the pitch after four wins in all competitions since the Celtic defeat.

But off it there is still precious little certainty about the direction of the club, aside from Gilligan’s confirmation that the manager isn’t in danger and will be given money to spend in January [Sky Sports Scotland, 24 September].

On paper there might be some logic to letting King implement the two-year plan he says he has, but it is hard to see it happening unless he stops trashing those currently in charge at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, a Light Blues player was blasted live on air for the “terrible thing” he did.
