James Vaughan has told the Friedkin Group exactly what they need to do once they finalise the Everton takeover.
The Texas-based group are waiting for the Premier League’s green signal before they can officially take charge of the Toffees.
Speaking to iNews on 21 November, Vaughan, the head of academy recruitment and player pathways, said: “I think we have to look outside the box a bit, be a bit innovative and I think we do a really good job of that.
“The easiest thing in the world is to look at the same players everyone is looking at and say ‘We want the same player’ but it’s about knowing your own mind and the kind of player who will benefit from your programme,
“It’s exciting for everyone. New ownership would mean new conversations. We believe we’re doing some really good work and that’s without massive investment so I think we don’t know what that level (of finance) is going to be but we can only plan for all eventualities.
“If that means we’re going to get more resource then we believe we can put that to good use and kick on again.”
James Vaughan has told The Friedkin Group exactly what to do at Everton
Vaughan has advocated for increased investment in Everton’s academy, emphasising its potential as a cornerstone for the club’s future under new ownership.
By highlighting the need for innovative scouting and development strategies, he suggests that rather than competing for the same players as larger clubs, Everton should focus on identifying unique talents that fit their specific development model.
This approach not only differentiates Everton in the market but also maximises the impact of any financial injection by fostering players who could either contribute to the first team or be sold for profit, aiding financial sustainability.
Prioritising the academy is crucial for the incoming owners due to the club’s recent financial constraints and player sales necessitated by profit and sustainability rules.
Investing in youth development can provide a sustainable supply of talent, reducing reliance on expensive transfers and helping maintain competitive balance.
Funds could be used to enhance scouting networks, improve training facilities, and possibly employ specialised coaches to nurture young talents.
In other Everton news, Alan Myers has revealed if new court “issues” are now set to impact the club’s takeover.
