Scout: Everton and Aston Villa can work in tandem to balance books in double transfer deal

Ryan Williams believes that Everton and Aston Villa can work in tandem to balance the books with the Lewis Dobbin and Tim Iroegbunam transfer deals.

The football scout, who’s also an analyst and business consultant has suggested that both teams can overpay for the players in order to satisfy the PSR guidelines.

Per the Athletic on 19 June, Villa and the Toffees have held positive talks for Dobbin while the Daily Mail reported on 18 June that Iroegbunam is liked at the Merseyside club.

Via Twitter, Williams wrote: “It would be fantastic for Aston Villa & Everton to put something together where both teams overpay for Dobbin / Iroegbunam in independent cash deferred deals to satisfy PSR. The amortization would hurt downstream with the move to the new PSR schema, but it would help for FY24.”

Everton and Aston Villa are both in jeopardy of breaching PSR rules

The PSR breaches could result in penalties such as points deductions or fines and the two clubs will be looking to avoid it.

They certainly will be exploring creative solutions to balance their books and one potential avenue is a swap deal involving Dobbin and Iroegbunam.

By overpaying for each other’s players in cash-deferred deals, both clubs can artificially inflate their transfer fees, which would help them meet the PSR requirements.

The amortisation of these fees over the players’ contracts would spread the financial impact over time, potentially easing the strain on their finances in the short term.

However, this strategy could have long-term consequences, as the new PSR schema will limit clubs to spending 85% of their total revenues on squads.

This could result in a tighter financial constraint in the future, making it even more challenging for both clubs to stay within the PSR limits.

How the two clubs decide to go about things, remains to be seen, but it certainly is something worth mulling over.

In other Everton news, a European club are keen to get their striker off their wage bill with a £26million transfer on the cards.
