Sean Dyche will decide whether Jarrad Branthwaite will feature for Everton against Ipswich Town in the next 24 hours.
The 22-year-old has appeared once all season in the 2-1 win against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park and is currently in contention for the trip to Portman Road on Saturday [19 October].
Dyche addressed the situation in his pre-match press conference on Thursday [17 October], as reported by the Daily Mail [18 October, pg58], and revealed a call will be made on Branthwaite’s involvement on the weekend in the next 24 hours.
He said: “We’ll have to make a call, probably over the next 24 hours but his injury is fine at the moment, it’s just his training schedule [to consider].”
Everton hopeful Jarrad Branthwaite will return against Ipswich Town
It is no coincidence the Toffees’ only Premier League win of the season came when Branthwaite featured in the starting lineup, his involvement will be crucial to securing the three points at Portman Road on Saturday.
Both he and Vitali Mykolenko took part in a full training session ahead of the Premier League restart [James Savundra]. However, given the pair have suffered from injury concerns throughout the season the match against Ipswich could be deemed too soon to welcome them back into the side.
Dyche has somewhat enjoyed a turnaround in fortunes in recent weeks with a three-game unbeaten streak in the league after losing his first four consecutive matches, two of which, they surrendered two-goal leads to lose 3-2 against Bournemouth and Aston Villa.
The Blues have an opportunity to put some daylight between themselves and the relegation zone but it will be no easy task, Kieran McKenna’s side has proven tough to beat at Portman Road with only Liverpool managing to leave Suffolk with three points thus far.
Branthwaite returning to the side would go a long way in securing a much-needed victory on the road but Everton can take comfort in their recent form and could still have the personnel available to win the clash should he be deemed unfit to play.
