Rangers midfielder Tom Lawrence has left David Edgar in awe with a “sensational” piece of skill in the Light Blues’ clash with Ross County.

Philippe Clement’s side picked up a valuable three points with a 6-0 win at Hampden Park on Saturday (24 August) thanks to strikes from Cyriel Dessers, Rabbi Matondo, Lawrence and Danilo.

While Dessers stole plenty of the plaudits for his powerful finish midway through the first half, Heart and Hand host Edgar was quick to heap praise on Welsh international Lawrence for his role in the goal.

Writing on X on Saturday (24 August) he said: “1-0 Rangers!

“Sensational turn from Lawrence in midfield, slips in Dessers who blasts home.”

Will Tom Lawrence exit Rangers amid Ibrox transfer rumours?

Heading into the new season, it wasn’t quite clear where Lawrence stood in Clement’s plans with reports suggesting the Gers were open to offers for the Welshman should they arrive before the 30 August deadline [Chris Jack, 10 June].

However, Clement has persisted with the attacking midfielder in the opening weeks of the campaign. That will partly be down to his lack of options now that Ianis Hagi and Todd Cantwell are out of the picture, but Lawrence has repaid his faith.

While he really should have got on the scoresheet himself in the first half, when he spurned a golden opportunity wide of the post, he made up for that miss with an excellent finish in the second period as the Gers were in cruise control.

Most supporters would still like to see a new number 10 arrive in Glasgow before the summer transfer window slams shut next week. In the meantime, Lawrence has shown that he still has a role to play in Gers shirt.

It would be a major shock to pundits and supporters alike if his exit was sanctioned in the coming days, particularly given the sheer amount of work Clement and the recruitment team have left to do.

In other Rangers news, a Rabbi Matondo revelation has left Si Ferry gobsmacked as he continues to be linked with an exit
