Sergio Reguilon faces “months in the wilderness” if Tottenham cannot offload him to Turkey in the coming days, according to the Sunday People.
The Sunday People reported in their print edition (8 September, page 53) that Ange Postecoglou wants to send the 27-year-old to Turkey before the Super Lig transfer window closes on 13 September.
Giovani Lo Celso did make a Deadline Day move from North London to Real Betis, but Postecoglou was unable to sell Reguilon before the UK window shut on 30 August and is still looking to move him on.
Reguilon has been left out of Spurs’ Europa League squad, but any transfer could reportedly be complicated by Chelsea’s own efforts to offload left-back Ben Chilwell to any interested Turkish clubs.
Will Sergio Reguilon complete late transfer away from Tottenham?
The writing has been on the wall for Reguilon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for some time, with the Spaniard having been sent out on three consecutive loan spells since his last first-team appearance.
Reguilon most recently featured for the Lilywhites back in 2022 having only signed the season prior, but has played for Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Brentford in the months since.
None of those three sides fancied pursuing a deal to sign the left-back permanently though, leaving Reguilon in a bind with absolutely zero prospect of having a playing future in North London.
With the Turkish window open until 13 September, it seems as if Spurs would be willing to take any offer that gets the 27-year-old off their books, with his contract set to end in 2025.
A loan deal with Postecoglou’s side paying most of Reguilon’s wages could even be on the cards at this late stage, but it remains to be seen if Spurs will offload the Spaniard while they still have the chance.
In other Tottenham news, the club could form a partnership with one European side after a brand new transfer was announced.
