SFA officials Alan Muir and Frank O’Connor have been axed after failing to award a penalty to Rangers against Celtic on Sunday, according to the Daily Record.

The outlet reported on 17 December that the duo haven’t been assigned any Scottish Premiership fixtures this weekend despite the rest of the Hampden team being in action.

The pair on VAR have been dropped after Vaclav Cerny wasn’t awarded a penalty in extra time despite being fouled on the line by Liam Scales.

On-field referee John Beaton awarded a free-kick but TV replays showed that a spot kick should have been awarded by the video assistant officials.

It was a frustrating day at Hamdpen for the Gers as they suffered yet another defeat against their Old Firm rivals.

With that being said, the performance was much improved from Philippe Clement’s side, going ahead early on through Nedim Bajrami.

Despite eventually losing on penalties, things could have proved to be so much different if a penalty had been awarded in extra time.

Cerny nabbed the ball of Scales who grabbed hold of the Czechia international who went down on the line of the penalty area.

The on-pitch referee, Scales, awarded a free kick which was a fair decision given how the foul looked on first viewing.

VAR should have intervened to award a spot kick after reviewing the decision but that wasn’t the case.

As a result, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the duo at Clydesdale House have been dropped for the upcoming weekend’s fixtures by the SFA.

In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton was left in hysterics after a Kris Boyd clip resurfaced.
