Simon Jordan shares Dan Friedkin 'Irony' live on air ahead of Everton takeover

Dan Friedkin potentially pursuing former Everton manager Frank Lampard at Roma is an ironic turn of events, according to Simon Jordan.

Speaking on talkSPORT (5 November, 11:22am), Jordan said that the incoming Toffees owner has already shown he struggles with managers, given the record of incumbent Roma boss Ivan Juric.

Lampard was replaced in the Goodison Park dugout by Sean Dyche amid a relegation battle in January 2023 and has been linked with succeeding Juric at Roma if the Croatian is sacked by Friedkin.

Jordan said: “The current guy that’s in there, you look at his credentials and think, ‘how does he become a Roma manager?’

“How does he – based upon what he’s done in his previous jobs with win records of 25 and 30 per cent – how does he become a solution to Roma’s problems?

“By those credentials, Frank Lampard becomes a conversation. If Friedkin is looking at Everton, there’s an irony about this, because ultimately Everton is the club that he’s going to own.

“You look at it and say ‘but they fired Frank Lampard’ – and if they’d hadn’t fired Frank Lampard, Everton would’ve probably gotten relegated.”

Everton fans will be fearful over Dan Friedkin at Roma

Since re-entering the fray as the front-runner to take over at Goodison and agreeing a deal to do so with Farhad Moshiri, Friedkin’s ownership of Roma has gone up a few notches in terms of turbulence.

Friedkin’s takeover was confirmed just five days after he sacked club legend Daniele De Rossi just four games into the new season at Stadio Olimpico, and his replacement Juric hasn’t had the desired effect.

If Lampard – whose Toffees tenure yielded 12 wins from 44 matches at a rate of 27.3 per cent – is hired in the wake of Juric’s potential sacking, confidence in Friedkin on Merseyside will fall through the floor.

With Friedkin possibly keen to sell 30 per cent of his shares in Roma [Daniele Fisichella, 5 November], fans will hope that he devotes much more care to hiring Dyche’s successor if and when necessary.

The likes of Maurizio Sarri and Jose Mourinho have both been mooted for the Blues, but if Lampard does end up as Roma’s new boss, few Everton fans will have faith in Friedkin to attract a big name.
