Manchester United chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe could be set to land a dream managerial replacement for Erik ten Hag in the form of Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso.
Alonso has worked wonders with Leverkusen since he took the job, turning them from a team who would be in and out of the top four season by season to Bundesliga champions without losing a single game.
The Spanish tactician has now been tipped as the next Man Utd manager amid Ten Hag’s struggles at Old Trafford this season, with AI software at Sportscasting putting him as the most likely next full time head coach of the Red Devils.
Ruud van Nistelrooy has also been linked with the United job, while former Chelsea boss Graham Potter hinted at holding talks over the role.
Can Ratcliffe land Alonso to replace Ten Hag?
It would be some statement by United to hire Alonso, one of the most impressive managers in the game at the moment, but it seems this could be one worth watching.
MUFC have big ambitions and will want to get back to the success they enjoyed under Sir Alex Ferguson in the past, and Ten Hag surely isn’t the man to get them there.
Alonso has also been linked with Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, however, so this surely won’t be an easy deal to get done.
