Sky Sports journalist shares what he heard fans singing just after Ethan Nwaneri's second Arsenal goal tonight

Arsenal midfielder Ethan Nwaneri announced himself to the footballing world with a dazzling display on his full Gunners debut on Wednesday night.

The Hale End graduate first made headlines back in 2022 when he became the youngest Premier League player ever, as well as Arsenal’s youngest ever player, after he came on against Brentford.

Two years on, and Nwaneri has well and truly burst onto the scene with a superb brace in the League Cup third-round encounter with Bolton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium.

Declan Rice opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 16th minute, making the most of Scott Arfield’s error to set himself up and fire home from just outside the box.

Nwaneri then got his first of the night on 37 minutes, finishing from point-blank range after great work from Raheem Sterling and Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Nwaneri struck again in the 49th minute as he bore down on goal and coolly slotted home after Rice set him up following Chris Forino’s mistake at the back.

Sky Sports News journalist Sam Blitz and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano both praised the Arsenal youngster and shared what they heard fans singing in the aftermath.

Arsenal fans say Ethan Nwaneri is ‘one of our own’

Blitz said, as per the Sky Sports website: “Easy as you like. Poor from Bolton. This night belongs to Ethan Nwaneri. ‘He’s One of Our Own’, sing the Arsenal fans…”

This was corroborated by Romano on X, saying Gunners supporters were singing “you’re one of our own”, and deemed Nwaneri a “top talent” who shone on a “special night”.

How did the media rate Nwaneri performance?

The Evening Standard gave Nwaneri a 9 out of 10 and deemed him their star player of the night.

“A dream night for the 17-year-old,” they wrote.

“Two goals on his full debut and he really did not look out of place. What a talent Arsenal have on their hands.”

Likewise, Goal.com went with a 9 out of 10 rating for Nwaneri.

“The star of the night,” they wrote.

“Two goals, one in each half, and a very accomplished all-round performance. A dream night for the 17-year-old on his first Arsenal start.”

Routine win for Arsenal against Bolton

Arsenal conceded not long after, Aaron Collins slotting home after rounding Jack Porter, but the Gunners restored their three-goal lead midway through the second half.

Bukayo Saka toyed with the Bolton defence before prodding across the six-yard box for Sterling to tap in after Luke Southwood’s save slowed the ball down.

Arsenal went on to make it 5-1 in the 78th minute as Kai Havertz helped the ball into the back of the net after Southwood’s save looped towards the Germany international.

All in all, a great performance from Arsenal against a potentially tricky opponent, and possibly the night when several stars were born at N5.
