James Tarkowski could’ve been shown a red card in the Everton and Nottingham Forest clash at Goodison, Michael Dawson says.
In the opening minutes of the fixture on Sunday (29 December), the centre-back went into the book as he overran the ball and fouled Ramon Sosa in the process at Goodison Park.
Dawson feels the on-field referee made the right call not to send off the English defender and thinks the yellow card was sufficient as the Merseyside club look to get the better of the West Bridgford outfit.
Speaking on Sky Sports News (29 December), the 41-year-old said: “Everton could’ve had a red card. It wouldn’t have been the right decision, in my opinion. Tarkowski is bringing the ball out, and then he goes straight through Sosa. It was a yellow card.”
James Tarkowski needs to be axed in Everton v Nottingham Forest
Tarkowski isn’t having the best of games for the Toffees against Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.
The centre-back is at risk of being sent off after his clumsy foul, and Sean Dyche can’t afford to have his team go a man down in the second half.
As things stand, the Blues are 15th in the Premier League table and are hovering around the relegation zone.
Everton have had some impressive performances in recent games, taking points away from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City, but the Tricky Trees have also been brilliant this season.
Forest are in the top four going into January, and the Merseyside outfit can’t take them lightly.
Chris Wood scored the game’s opening goal in the 15th minute, and the New Zealand international eased past Tarkowski during the build-up.
Dyche has Michael Keane and Jake O’Brien on the bench and should consider using them in the second half.
In other Everton news, a Rooney has been spotted at Goodison during the Forest clash.
