Sky Sports share what transfer Rangers really need to make in January

Philippe Clement needs to add a defender to his Rangers side in the January transfer window, Sky Sports have shared.

Despite a tough start to the season, pressure on Clement has died down of late with the Gers starting to find some form to get results under their belts.

However, if the Belgian is going to secure his future he will need to make the right additions to his squad in the January transfer window and carry on their good form into the New Year.

When analysing their season on Sky Sports, Allan Valente wrote: “Rangers remain in a transitional phase and the club need to add another defender in January due to injuries.

“However, injury problems or not, Clement has to beat Celtic this season. It is unthinkable for him and the supporters that Rodgers’ dominance in the Old Firm fixture is allowed to go on unchecked for much longer, even if individual results may have little impact on the outcome of this league title.”

Rangers need to add a defender to their ranks in January

As Clement looks to strengthen his side in January, a defender will certainly be an area of interest to the boss due to injuries in the side meaning they are looking a bit thin at the back.

John Souttar, Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Ridvan Yilmaz have all suffered periods out on the sidelines and it will be essential for the Gers to ensure they are tight at the back for the remainder of the campaign.

James Tavernier is one defender who has certainly started stepping up of late, as expected of the captain with him providing goals at the other end of the pitch too. However, he is an ageing player and perhaps him being a standout highlights that the squad is lacking.

The Scottish Premiership outfit needs to start looking at players that can pay off long-term for the club, Hamza Igamane being a perfect example of that so a young but able defender will surely help Clement’s side in the remainder of the campaign.
