James Tavernier reveals 'Extreme' Ryan Kent gift that led to Rangers Secret Santa scrapping

Rangers scrapped their Secret Santa after Ryan Kent gifted a snake to one of his teammates, James Tavernier says.

The former Gers winger joined the Light Blues in 2018 before leaving the Glaswegian outfit in the summer of 2023 but has been linked with a return.

When asked who arranges the Christmas event at the Gers, the captain said they had to stop the tradition after the 28-year-old winger gave one of the players an “extreme” gift.

Speaking on the Bears’ Instagram account [24 December], Tavernier said: “The Secret Santa ended up being scrapped, especially after the year Ryan Kent brought in a snake for one of the lads. The gifts were going a bit too extreme.”

Rangers need to spread cheer at St Mirren on Boxing Day

The last few weeks have seen a resurgence from the Gers, with Philippe Clement finally able to bring the best out of the team.

Despite the loss to Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup final, the Ibrox faithful left Hampden with their head held high, and they had every reason to feel hard done by the loss after VAR failed to award a penalty to the Light Blues in extra time.

The Bears continued their fine form on Saturday [21 December] in the Scottish Premiership with a 1-0 win over Dundee.

Rangers have clawed their way up the league table and are second for the first time in the current campaign after Aberdeen’s recent dip.

The Gers’ points gap with Celtic has also reduced to nine points, and while catching up to them is unlikely, the Old Firm derby on 2 January will provide Clement with another opportunity to break his duck against Brendan Rodgers’ team.

As things stand, the Scottish Premiership looks out of reach for the Light Blues, but they are in a good position in the Europa League and have the Scottish Cup to look forward to as well.

The Ibrox faithful were down and out around a month back, but there seems to be a new lease of life at the Glaswegian outfit.

On Boxing Day, the Bears have the chance to spread more cheer with a trip to St Mirren.

In other Rangers news, Clement will make three changes to the starting lineup against the Buddies.
