West Ham appear set to focus on alternative striker targets to Jhon Duran and interest in Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Sky Sports report.
According to an update on the outlet’s website on 15 July (4.15pm) a source has indicated that the Irons’ interest in the Aston Villa forward has “cooled”.
Calvert-Lewin is said to be “one of a number” of strikers they have looked at but is the only centre forward named in the latest update.
The Toffees’ number nine has a year left on his contract at Goodison Park and looks set to be sold after rejecting an extension, with Manchester United interested [TEAMtalk, 9 July].
Everton may sell amid interest at Manchester United and Brentford
Brentford are also interested in Calvert-Lewin this summer as the 27-year-old appears set for an exit [Football Transfers, 21 June] and Newcastle have a long-term interest.
Everton offered him to the Magpies amid attempts to sign Yakuba Minteh [The Times, 24 June] but the double-deal broke down and the winger ended up joining Brighton.
Uncertainty over the ownership situation is said to be one of the contributing factors to Calvert-Lewin’s reluctance to extend his stay at Goodison Park [Liverpool Echo, 13 July].
Dan Friedkin’s group are conducting due diligence on a takeover from Farhad Moshiri but his is the fourth to gain exclusivity from the majority shareholder in the past two years and it is not certain that this deal will go through [Paul Joyce, 9 July].
West Ham need a striker this summer so it would be little surprise if they came forward with a bid if they are moving away from Duran at Villa Park, although what money Kevin Thelwell will be looking to secure at a time when it appears he is obliged to sell remains to be seen.
In other Everton news, a “hugely substantial” transfer update on another star leaving the club has been shared by David Ornstein.
