Son Heung-min has emerged as a transfer target for the Saudi Pro League, with the South Korean’s camp unhappy with his contract situation at Tottenham, according to TBR Football.
The news outlet reports [8 November] that the SPL are ready to make big moves next summer and will have ‘substantial funds’ to pursue players, one of them being the Spurs captain.
It was recently confirmed that the North Londoners would trigger the one-year extension in the 32-year-old’s deal [The Telegraph, 4 November] instead of offering him a new contract, which has not pleased the forward’s entourage.
Daniel Levy needs to keep Son Heung-min at Tottenham
Son has been Tottenham’s best player since the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich in 2023.
The South Korea international has carried the team on his back, scoring 17 goals and providing 10 assists last season in all competitions for Spurs.
Without the 32-year-old, the Lilywhites have struggled in the current campaign, and his absence has been felt in several fixtures.
While age isn’t on Son’s side, in this day and age, that hardly matters, and Daniel Levy should do everything in his power to convince the club captain to shun interest from Saudi.
The Tottenham faithful realise the importance of the South Korean, and it would be a surprise if the board didn’t feel the same, considering the team have had to rely on the likes of Timo Werner when the skipper has been on the sidelines.
Ange Postecoglou seems adamant about ending Spurs’ 16-year trophy drought, but that will be even more challenging without Son at the club.
In other Tottenham news, Graeme Bailey shares what he’s heard about the Lilywhites’ transfer plans for the January window.
