'Sooner than planned': West Ham could now accelerate move to sign the Championship's 'rising star' - journalist

According to a West Ham transfer specialist, the club could now accelerate their pursuit for a Championship player after Edson Alvarez’s injury with Mexico.

The Hammers have welcomed Julen Lopetegui as their new manager after David Moyes left his role following a four-and-a-half-year spell.

The Spaniard has already added Luis Guilherme to his squad and could be about to sign a second player following Alvarez’s injury.

West Ham could accelerate move for Ismael Kone

Speaking on the West Ham Way Patreon, ExWHUEmployee confirmed West Ham’s interest in Watford midfielder Ismael Kone and noted that the deal could advance quicker than expected.

“I can confirm that West Ham do have an interest in Watford player Ismael Kone,” Ex said.

He continued: “There is a lot of interest in the player from other Premier League teams, Marseille and Roma plus others in those leagues too.

“The injury to Edson Alvarez could encourage West Ham to speed up their interest in the player and make a move sooner than planned.”

Ismael Kone statistics

Kone, who has been labelled a ‘rising star’ by Canadian Soccer Daily, plies his trade across a number of areas in the midfield, from the base to the number 10 role.

He registered seven goal involvements in the Championship last term and his underlying data was particularly impressive.

The 2002-born ranks in the top eight per cent for progressive carries per 90 compared to his positional peers across Europe, as per Fbref, amplifying his terrific dribbling.

Further, he sits in the top 19 per cent for shot-creating actions, evincing his playmaking abilities.

If West Ham do land his signature this summer, he’d be a very exciting acquisition with plenty of room to get even better given his age.
