Sources: Tottenham 27-yr-old 'certain' to complete move

Barcelona are eyeing a cut-price deal to sign Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon before 31 August, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the left-back is almost “certain” to leave Spurs this summer after spending last season out on loan.

Other La Liga sides are keeping a close eye on his progress and have been put on alert by his availability late in the window.

The Spaniard, 27, has entered the final year of his contract at Tottenham and the club are keen to cash in rather than lose him on a free next year.

Reguilon is no longer part of Spurs’ first-team plans under Ange Postecoglou and did not feature heavily for the club during pre-season.

Barcelona are in the market for a new left-back to provide cover for Alejandro Balde after Marcos Alonso left the Nou Camp on a free earlier this summer.

Reguilon is considered an option for that position given his price and homegrown status, and it is thought the player would be willing to play a squad role.

Having spent last season on loan at Manchester United and Brentford, he made a combined 28 appearances but failed to make any real impact.

Postecoglou does not believe the left-back is a good fit for his style of play and will stick with Destiny Udogie as his first choice on that side.

Having already cashed in on Emerson Royal this summer, the transfer team at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium are taking steps to cut the wage bill.

This should allow space for further investment in the closing stages of the window.

Reguilon has made 67 appearances for Spurs since joining from Real Madrid in 2020, but is growing evermore likely to depart within the next week before the transfer deadline.
