Stan Collymore says signs not good for Sean Dyche future as Everton smashed v Spurs

Sean Dyche “knows the script” after Everton suffered a second heavy defeat in as many Premier League games, according to Stan Collymore.

The former England international posted on X after the Toffees lost 4-0 to Tottenham (24 August), stating that with seven goals conceded in their two games so far, the signs aren’t good at Goodison Park.

Dyche’s side were put to the sword in North London as Spurs scored twice in either half, with Collymore suggesting that the Blues boss knows exactly what is coming down the line if he doesn’t reverse the slump.

Collymore said: “Seven goals in two games conceded, with zero scored for Everton.

“Dyche knows the script and it’s not looking good for him at all.”

Sean Dyche must reverse Everton slide after Tottenham debacle

Losing your first two matches of any season 3-0 and 4-0 respectively is the worst start any club could make to a campaign, but for a club in Everton’s position, it has the potential to be disastrous.

As their final season of 133 at Goodison Park begins – with the shadow of a twice-failed takeover in the background – staying in the Premier League is absolutely vital for the long and short-term future.

Dyche’s decision to only make a single change to the side which lost 3-0 to Brighton on the opening day – despite calls for mass change across the pitch – backfired as Spurs cut his makeshift team to ribbons.

Although debutant Roman Dixon impressed having been brought in at right-back for the suspended Ashley Young, the likes of Idrissa Gueye and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s performances were non-existent.

The siege mentality employed by Dyche last season can only go so far as the Toffees look to kick-start an already ailing season, and that may mean there’s plenty of work to still be done before the transfer window shuts [Fabrizio Romano, 24 August].

In other Everton news, an international player in the Toffees’ academy could make a ‘surprise’ transfer before the window shuts.
