Marcus Rashford is unlikely to have the option to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window after his agent’s transfer bombshell.
That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider there are very few clubs in world football that could afford to sign the England international.
Catalonian news outlet El Nacional reported on 23 October Rashford has asked his agent to “get him out” of Man United in January after growing unhappy at Old Trafford.
Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG have all previously shown an interest in signing the 26-year-old attacker.
Rashford’s current United deal is believed to be worth around £300,000 a week and isn’t due to expire until 2028.
Marcus Rashford unlikely to make Man United exit in January
Borson insisted none of the clubs that previously registered an interest in Rashford will look to sign him in January.
He told Football Insider: “Let’s say he’s on a package of £300,000 a week, we know that there are very few clubs in the world that can pay that.
“Barcelona are now off that list for the time being, probably for the next five to 10 years.
“You would assume there is no chance that he’s going to go to another English club, so you are basically left with PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich that could even afford that, aside from Saudi Arabia.
“He’s not going to go to Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in January, that’s obvious.
“That just leaves PSG and we know there have been conversations before.
“But some of the press reports have been that they have lost their case against Mbappe and are going to have to pay him €55million (£46million), and that is going to have an impact from a financial fair play perspective and really just wanting to operate a sustainable business.
“I suspect there is no option for Rashford to go to any of those clubs in that tiny group of clubs that can afford him unless somehow United decided that they were prepared to sell him in England, which is just not going to happen.
“I don’t think the story is very credible, to be honest.”
