Stefan Borson: Everton takeover approval 'imminent' - but there's a twist

Everton will see their Friedkin Group takeover approved “imminently” but will nonetheless have “limited” funds for the January window.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that “nothing should prevent” US billionaire Dan Friedkin from heading in as the club’s new owner in the coming weeks.

Friedkin agreed a deal in September to buy Everton owner Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1% stake in the club, and is currently undergoing the regulatory processes before he can take control.

It has been widely reported that the American has already started the hiring process for a new CEO at Goodison Park, despite not yet completing his takeover.

Everton, who are currently hovering just above the drop zone in the Premier League, will have the chance to add to their squad in the transfer window next month.

But Borson warned fans that funds will be hard to come by despite the mega-money takeover.

He told Football Insider: “I would have thought that approval is imminent.

“We’ve not heard any reason why that’s not the case.

“The 777 situation with A-CAP and Leadenhall is not going to be resolved any time soon. I doubt they are waiting for that to be resolved.

“It’s just a case of going through the Premier League’s process. We don’t know when they applied for approval.

“There’s nothing that should prevent Friedkin from getting approval.

“They’ll be keen to get it over the line, especially with January coming up. But there is very limited scope for spending in January anyway.”
