Stefan Borson: Liverpool will make 'Big Deal' about stunning confirmed news

Liverpool will be making a “big deal” in talks with potential partners about the number of fans that watched their games last season.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Merseyside giants will use that statistic as they look to land new commercial deals.

Liverpool have announced on their website that independent data from Nielsen has revealed the club were the most-watched team across the 2023-24 campaign.

The American data company’s report showed a cumulative global audience of 471 million people watched the club during Jurgen Klopp’s last season at Anfield.

But Borson revealed that is unlikely to help Liverpool “move the dial” as they look to increase their commercial revenue.

“They will definitely use it,” Borson told Football Insider.

“I couldn’t see the report publicly available, but Liverpool report it as kind of official. It’s independent research by Nielsen, who do quite a lot of work for the Premier League.

“But taking it at face value, if Liverpool have come out on top of that, then clearly their commercial team when they are out pitching to potential partners are going to make a big deal about it.

“It’s on their own corporate website, they are singing about it.

“I absolutely think it will be in every presentation, but these sorts of things are just part of the mix.

“Ultimately, to get a major partner over the line, you need a bit more than some Nielsen analysis about how many fans you have got or how many active users you have got.

“It’s all part of the tapestry of why a party would want to be associated with Liverpool, but in itself, it’s not going to move the dial.”
