Stefan Borson: Man City are confident about 115 charges case after confirmed news

Pep Guardiola signing a new contract with Manchester City shows the club are confident about the outcome of their 115 charges case.

That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the deal is “very positive” news for the English champions.

Man City announced on 21 November Guardiola has penned a new two-year deal with the club after his contract was due to expire at the end of this season.

The agreement ensures the Catalan will have spent a decade at the Etihad, where he’s won 18 trophies since joining the club in 2016.

It comes at a time when Man City are locked in a legal battle with the Premier League after being dealt 115 charges in February 2023 for allegedly breaching the financial fair play (FFP) rules over a nine-year period between 2009 and 2018.

An independent commission hearing started in mid-September and was due to end last week.

Pep Guardiola deal ‘very positive’ news for Man City

Borson believes Guardiola’s new deal is a sign Man City are confident about the outcome of the case.

“I think it’s very positive for City,” Borson told Football Insider.

“You have to say that it shows in terms of the 115 charges case a level of confidence there.

“It must be a sign of confidence.

“I don’t think you can read anything else into it other than confidence, which is obviously a positive for City.

“But we will see over time.

“It may be that two years gives Pep the opportunity to operate in a lower division if those charges are proven.

“But it does look like he’s there for the time being.”
