Stevie Clifford predicts £1.5m+ Rangers option-to-buy clause in place at Ibrox

Rangers will likely have to pay between £1.5million and £2million to make Neraysho Kasanwirjo’s stay at Ibrox permanent, according to Stevie Clifford.

The Dutchman joined Philippe Clement’s side on loan from Feyenoord in the final hours of the summer transfer window and his move includes an option to make the move permanent next summer.

Although Four Lads host Clifford isn’t entirely sure what the clause in Kasanwirjo’s deal is at this stage, he has urged the Light Blues to consider paying the seven-figure transfer fee if he continues to impress.

Speaking on The Rangers Review YouTube channel (16 October, 23:33) he said: “I don’t think that has ever been actually talked about.

“I don’t think we’ve ever had an official response to how much the option to buy is so we can speculate a wee bit.

“I would think that realistically it’s got to be around about £1.5million to £2million. I would say, if you look at his value and stuff like that, I’d think that’s maybe where it is.

“He’s a good age, he fits our profile, we’re going to need a good right back because James Tavernier can’t go on forever.

“If you were looking at this deal next summer and he’s enjoyed it here, he’s played and Tav is leaving, do you go and get a completely new right back that settles in or do you try and stick with the guy that’s been here and shown promise?

“We’re obviously thinking way ahead, anything can happen with form and something like that but I’d like to see more of him.

“Would I sign him if I was given the opportunity? If things keep progressing the way they are and it’s a decent deal for the club, I’d certainly look at him.”

How much will Rangers have to pay for Neraysho Kasanwirjo’s transfer at Ibrox?

While the Light Blues haven’t exactly spent freely over the last couple of transfer windows, this may be a time when they have to just bite the bullet and pay the fee required to bring Kasanwirjo to Ibrox permanently.

Of course, the player himself will also have to be open to the move to Glasgow on a long-term basis, but the framework has been placed in the deal so that the Gers can secure his services permanently if they choose to do so.

The initial signs suggest Kasanwirjo would be well worth £2million. Although his minutes have been limited so far, he has looked incredibly comfortable in a variety of roles and is pressing Tavernier for a starting role.

Hopefully, he continues to go from strength to strength over the remainder of his loan spell in Scotland. The Gers will obviously be keen for him to flourish, but will also be hoping that Feyenoord don’t want to bring him back to the Netherlands.
