Neil Lennon has offered Ianis Hagi a surprise Rangers exit route to join him at new club Rapid Bucharest if he leaves Ibrox.

The former Celtic and Hibs boss has just been appointed at the Romanian club and jokingly suggested the unsettled winger could return to his home country.

Hagi, 25, spent last season in La Liga on loan with Alaves and appears have confirmed he wants to leave the Light Blues this summer after telling his agents to find him the right club and manager [Scottish Sun, 6 June].

Lennon said, via the Daily Record (10 June, 4.05pm): “Come here, come play at Rapid! He’s welcome if he wants to. He has had problems with injuries, but he is a good player. So he’s welcome here, tell him.”

It is looking more and more likely that Hagi’s Ibrox career is coming to an end so even if an unlikely union with Lennon isn’t on the cards some sort of move probably is.

Despite his father, Romanian legend Gheorghe, dismissing suggestions that the Gers winger was looking to leave in March the player himself soon came out and indicated he wanted to stay in Spain because the style of play suited him.

Following the serious knee injury that forced him to miss a year and last season’s loan move he has only featured sparingly for Rangers in the past two-and-a-half years.

He made 22 league appearances for Alaves last term to bounce back somewhat from so little football in the period prior, and as is the way at Ibrox these days a huge amount has changed since he left.

Rangers
Old Rangers adversary Neil Lennon joined Rapid Bucharest last month.

Michael Beale has been replaced by Philippe Clement and things have moved on, so if Hagi is looking for a way out the current boss could probably use the cash just as much as the wide man could use a new start.

In other Rangers news, another new Light Blues signing has now said goodbye to his former fans and teammates ahead of his arrival at Ibrox.
