BBC Scotland pundit Marvin Bartley believes the Rangers performance against Aberdeen was the most worrying factor after a fan demanded Philippe Clement be sacked.
The Gers suffered a 2-1 defeat at Pittodrie on Wednesday 30 October which has only piled additional pressure on the Belgian at Ibrox.
It is clear that this performance was the last straw for some supporters with one calling into Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (30 October) to demand the manager’s sacking.
The fan said: “I’ve been saying it for a while, he’s got to go. He can’t survive this and I don’t know who we bring in but I can’t believe what I’m watching.”
Bartley suggested that the performance against the Dons was the main issue as he reacted by saying: “I’m not surprised [by the fans reaction] after watching that. I’m not saying that because Rangers have lost to Aberdeen, it’s the performance.
“The biggest worry for me there would be the performance. Outside of that 25 minutes, I thought Rangers were poor. In fact, they were terrible.
“That is going to be the most alarming thing because they look like a team now that everyone else in the league will fancy their chances against. It’s been like this for too long.”
Philippe Clement sack demand after Rangers defeat v Aberdeen
On the night before Halloween, it was certainly a trick rather than a treat for the Light Blues in their loss against the Dons.
This has seen Jimmy Thelin’s side extend their lead over the Gers in the Scottish Premiership to nine points which could prove to be a damaging blow to Clement’s prospects at Ibrox.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst was sacked for being the same distance behind Celtic before being replaced by the 50-year-old in October 2023.
The performances under the Belgian have been poor at times this season and besides a Nedim Bajrami touch of class at Pittodrie, there was very few silver linings to take away from this defeat.
It seems clear that supporters have had enough despite demands of patience from the manager in recent weeks.
Clement may benefit from the uncertainty in the boardroom at Ibrox with interim chairman John Gilligan placed in a difficult position while searching for a new CEO.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement has been ripped to shreds as an “inevitable” sack verdict has emerged after the Aberdeen loss.
