Michael Stewart has branded Robin Propper and Jefte “terrible” after a defensive lapse from the duo against Dundee at Ibrox.

The Gers advanced into the last four of the Scottish League Cup after what turned out to be a comfortable 3-0 win over Tony Docherty’s side, but it could have been far more nervy affair had Seb Palmer’s header hit the target.

Palmer got between the slack Propper and Jefte to fire the attempt towards goal, which ended up wayward, to Docherty’s disgust.

Stewart, live on Premier Sports [21 September, 18:56], said: “There is no communication, they’re just ball-watching.

“Look at the run from Palmer, in between Propper and Jefte, terrible defending. Docherty knows what a great chance that was for Dundee.”

Rangers survive scare to reach semi-finals

Luck was on Rangers’ side in spells, but the Light Blues were firmly in control to secure another very welcome win for Philippe Clement on their long-awaited return home to Ibrox.

Cyriel Dessers added to his tally with a brace alongside a penalty from James Tavernier, who gave away possession to spark the chance for Palmer which would have eaten into the deficit for the visitors.

The Gers, League Cup holders, will be seeking to replicate last season’s silver lining to a dismal campaign which is in severe danger of already heading the same way.

Rangers ace Jefte
Jefte joined Rangers in the summer

Propper and Jefte must look over their shoulders in terms of game time – whilst both arrived over the summer, the amount of football coming up means others will get their chance, and perhaps not lapse to concede chances like the two did there, having already been defensively suspect this season.

A demanding trip to Sweden comes next for Clement’s side on Thursday night to open the club’s Europa League campaign, before Hibernian are the first league visitors to Ibrox less than 72 hours later.
