John Textor has managed to achieve the “seemingly impossible” in exhibiting red flags in his pursuit to buy Everton, according to The Telegraph.
Chris Bascombe’s report via the publication’s online edition [12 September] tells of how the Toffees had to “slap down” the American businessman’s recent talk of the ideas he plans to put in place as the club’s new owner.
In what does not send out the “most reassuring signal”, as the report claims, interim CEO Chris Chong felt forced to issue an official statement on Thursday [12 September] as the media waited for Sean Dyche to begin his press conference before the team travel to Aston Villa.
Bascome wrote: “Having his remarks slapped down within 24 hours of making them certainly does not send out the most reassuring signal.
“Just like the ill-fated bid from 777 Partners, the latest move in the Everton ownership saga seems to have achieved the seemingly impossible by unveiling red flags at Goodison Park.”
Everton publicly respond to John Textor interview
Everton fans appear to be split after Textor’s latest move, in which he has brazenly opened up on his intentions as would-be owner.
The club statement assured that talks were continuing positively between the 58-year-old and Farhad Moshiri, and Textor is confident of being able to sell his 45-per-cent share in Crystal Palace – which acts as a stumbling block preventing him from acquiring another Premier League club.
However, it is also a move the club felt necessary to keep Textor in check, and stop any further overzealousness in its tracks.
Bascombe’s report reminds us of how 777 Partners had shown common “red flags” during their own period of exclusivity with Moshiri, which ended and ultimately collapsed back in May, although Toffees fans will not have to try too hard to recall it.
Progress remains active to attempt to strike a deal, but the clear “calm down” message from the club at least shows a degree of transparency to the Goodison faithful.
