Sean Dyche will be given until the next international break to save his job at Everton after a bad start to the season, TBR Football reports.
According to the outlet’s website on 13 September the Toffees hierarchy are ready to make a change at manager after three defeats from three in the Premier League.
Dyche went into the current international break off the back of a dismal 3-2 loss at home to Bournemouth, having led until the 87th minute.
He will now have five matches to avoid the sack before the next domestic interval, starting with a trip to Aston Villa on Saturday (14 September).
Graeme Potter and David Moyes linked to Everton job
With the John Textor takeover still unresolved as Farhad Moshiri continues to look for a way out there are questions over whether a managerial change would be affordable or sensible.
But there’s no denying the start to the league season has largely been atrocious, and while Dyche could point to an injury crisis and a record of rebounding from slow starts before he brought immense pressure on himself with the way he reacted to the Cherries loss [Michael Ball, 2 September].
Having used only two substitutes, which were arguably the wrong ones, he spoke after the game as if he had no influence over the game as defeat was snatched from the jaws of victory.
Textor has publicly denied any interest in replacing Dyche as he continues his attempts to buy the club [Sky Sports, 12 September], but it might not be his problem if results against, Villa, Southampton, Leicester, Crystal Palace and Newcastle don’t improve between now and 5 October.
Sacking the former Burnley boss is one thing but securing a quality replacement in the current circumstances could be quite another.
David Moyes has been suggested, as much on sentimental grounds as practical ones [Richard Keys, 26 August], and according to TBR Football on 5 September he will be considered.
They also reported ex-Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter has admirers at Goodison Park and would potentially be an ideal candidate, but when he has rejected every offer to come his way since leaving Stamford Bridge a year and a half ago it would be a surprise if he accepted the job at Everton when a takeover is in the offing.
In other Everton news, a legal update relating to the takeover has emerged amid concerns after Moshiri was sued by Alisher Usmanov.
