The Esk makes accusation about John Textor takeover attempt at Everton

John Textor was never going to realistically buy Everton from Farhad Moshiri and be a future owner of the club, according to Paul Quinn, aka The Esk.

On Tuesday (29 October), Textor’s Eagle Football company announced a substantial recapitalisation plan, including the sale of their interest in Crystal Palace.

Reacting to the news, Quinn said that the American business never had a realistic chance of buying the Toffees, seemingly questioning his intentions.

“Thankfully, Textor is no longer part of our future ownership – not that he ever was realistically, but for information purposes only”, the insider wrote on X (29 October).

Textor’s interest in Everton dates back to May, but Quinn has always maintained that the Crystal Palace co-owner is not a realistic option to take over from Moshiri (X).

The insider known as The Esk has repeatedly pointed out that the 59-year-old’s stake in the Selhurst Park outfit makes him an unrealistic option for the Toffees.

Textor would have had to sell his Palace shares first before buying Everton. Furthermore, he would have had to fork a significant amount of money upfront to steady the ship at Goodison, which seems unlikely considering Eagle Football company’s own struggles in South London.

He has, nevertheless, been gazumped by Dan Friedkin’s The Friedkin Group to buy the Merseyside-based club, with an agreement with Moshiri in place (The Athletic, 23 September).

While the deal is pending regulatory approval, it is set to bring Moshiri’s long-running effort to sell the club to an end.

Textor, meanwhile, appears to have turned his attention elsewhere (Alan Nixon).

In other Everton news, a journalist has tipped the Toffees to accept an offer for this player amid interest from elsewhere.
