'There Are Signs...' - Stefan Borson drops strong Ratcliffe verdict after Man United 'mistakes'

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made some club decisions he would likely never have made in charge of INEOS.

That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider time will tell whether he becomes another wealthy businessman who lost his fortune in football after making some early “mistakes” at Old Trafford.

Ratcliffe took charge of Man United’s footballing operations after securing a 27.7 per cent stake in the club earlier this year.

The INEOS chief has come under fire after making up to 250 members of staff redundant and increasing the price of matchday tickets to £66 for the remainder of this season.

Borson told Football Insider United have made a “£10million mistake” after it was revealed Dan Ashworth will be leaving the club just months after joining from Newcastle United.

He admitted there is going to be significant costs involved as Ratcliffe looks to make changes at Old Trafford.

“United are going through a process,” Borson told Football Insider.

“Things are going to get broken in that process and there is going to be a lot of cost going through the change that Ratcliffe thinks needs to happen.

“It will be another one of these tests whether high-quality business people can cope with the emotion of football.

“We have seen it time and time again very successful business people coming into football and completely lose their heads.

“They get emotionally involved, tend to be fans and start making decisions that they would never have made in their own business.

“There are already some signs that’s happening.

“It will be interesting to see whether that’s just a few early mistakes that will be rectified over time or whether actually Ratcliffe will just become one of those people who lost their fortune in football.”
