Edgar David was not impressed with referee Steven McLean’s performances during Rangers’ 1-0 win against St Johnstone on Sunday.
The match official only handed out four yellow cards in a stop-start display at McDiarmid Park on 1 December, with the Gers waiting until the 85th minute to receive their first caution.
Despite this, the Heart & Hand podcast founder pointed out McLean’s faults during the Scottish Premiership clash, with Light Blues fans often feeling hard done by when it comes to officiating.
Writing via X on Sunday (1 December), Edgar said: “This ref seems to have got a new whistle and he’s determined to use it.”

Philippe Clement would have wanted his players to zip the ball across the park and get in behind the Saints’ defence, but the constant whistles were far from ideal.
The Gers made 14 fouls compared to the Saints’ nine, and considering that, Nico Raskin would have been thanking his lucky stars that he was only carded in the final five minutes.
The Belgian was all over the pitch on Sunday, making three fouls, and winning 75 per cent of his tackles and six ground duels [FotMob], so it is tough to say if the referee’s display was unfair.
McLean’s main issue was slowing down the speed of the game significantly, stalling the Gers’ attack and helping the Saints to get back into their defensive shape.
Clement’s side only made the much-needed breakthrough via Jason Holt’s own goal, with the Gers attackers faltering in the final third, but the manager will only care about the three points.
