Tony Watt insists that Dundee United losing 1-0 to Rangers is “not an embarrassing” result.

The Gers finally managed to put an end to their poor run of form at Tannadice on Sunday 15 September, with Tom Lawrence scoring the early winner.

Watt admitted that Rangers can turn it up a gear even when they are under pressure for poor results and off-field trouble continuing at Ibrox.

Speaking on the BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast (16 September, 7:33) Watt shared his thoughts on the result.

“I thought it was a decent game and I thought Rangers started well and if you give them that bit of time they’ll cut you open,” he said.

“They controlled the game for the next 20/30 minutes.

“Look it’s not an embarrassing result getting done 1-0 against Rangers especially when they can go and turn it up a gear even when they’re under pressure and Dundee United shows that they can mix it with them.”

Rangers need to capitalise on their win v Dundee United

Rangers have had quite a topsy-turvy season thus far. A fairly lacklustre transfer window means only a few players have shown some real quality for Clement since the start of the term.

As with each season, Rangers’ goal is to outdo Celtic and come away with the Scottish Premiership title.

But, after their 3-0 loss in the first Old Firm derby game of the season and their 0-0 draw with Hearts on the opening day, it started to look less likely.

However, if they manage to capitalise on this win and perhaps change some things tactically, they could find this game pivotal to their season.

Clement will also have the Europa League to think about soon so he needs to find out which players he can trust to start every game such as Lawrence who’s had a stellar start to the campaign.

It’s still early days of course, but, if the club can get a few positive performances in the league, their fortunes could be turned around instantly.

In other Rangers news, Keith Jackson has mooted a potential change that the Gers could make for their cup tie against Dundee.
