Tottenham and Manchester United withdrawing concession tickets will lead to more consequences, Ian Herbert says.

The Daily Mail journalist believes that the “dismal” chiefs of Spurs and the Manchester club will realise their mistake regarding the cancellations.

West Ham United fans launched a protest against the ticketing changes with Black Bubbles in their loss against Liverpool on 29 December, with other fans likely to follow.

In the print edition of the Daily Mail (1 January, pg 59), Herbert wrote: “The scandal of Manchester United, Tottenham and West Ham withdrawing concession tickets for children and pensioners, with fears that others will follow, has brought backlash from those at the heart of the game.

“The Black Bubbles protest at West Ham’s game against Liverpool on Sunday revealed campaigners’ power of invention. A reminder to the dismal club executives and owners who picked this fight that when you laugh in the face of loyal fans, there will be consequences.”

Spurs haven’t won a trophy in 17 years, and it feels like the supporters are being made to pay more without any change in their prospects.

Tottenham are in the bottom half of the Premier League at the moment, and it doesn’t look like the supporters will be able to see their team compete in the Champions League next season unless they go all the way in the Europa League.

Postecoglou has brought fresh ideas and an attacking style of play to N17, which has attracted more eyeballs to the North London outfit, but the Australian could find himself out of a job if the current form continues.

Levy needs to use the momentum to build the fanbase rather than lose the loyal supporters who have been with the team through thick and thin.

While the move to the new stadium has brought in better facilities for the fans, there has also been more footfall with the increased number of seats.

The increase in broadcast revenue has also been monumental over the years, and there seems to be no need to remove the concessions for those who have been loyal.
