Jamie Carragher has ripped into Dominik Szoboszlai after his performance in Liverpool’s 3-2 Premier League win at Southampton on Sunday.
Despite the 24-year-old scoring the game’s opening goal after capitalising on a defensive mistake by the hosts, Carragher was critical of the player.
The Liverpool hero has demanded Szoboszlai show more in a Liverpool shirt to justify his playmaker status and to replicate the form he shows while on international duty with Hungary.
His record of four goals in 45 Premier League appearances was deemed insufficient by Carragher, who called for him to match the levels shown by rival teams’ number tens including Martin Odegaard, Kevin de Bruyne and Phil Foden.
Speaking in the first half of Liverpool’s clash at Southampton, live on Sky Sports’ Main Event channel, Jamie Carragher said: “I want to see more from Szoboszlai in a Liverpool shirt.
“Every time he goes away with Hungary on international duty he seems to score a brilliant free-kick.
“If you’re playing number 10 for one of the best teams in the country, you need to be one of the best players in the league – like [Martin] Odegaard at Arsenal and [Kevin] De Bruyne and [Phil] Foden at Man City.
“He’s scored four goals in 45 Premier League appearances. It should be three times that.”

Since his £60million move to Anfield from RB Leipzig in 2023, Szoboszlai’s inconsistent performances have left a lot to be desired.
He has shown flashes of brilliance, including his well-taken strike against Southampton, but there is a growing feeling that he has yet to hit his full potential at the club.
After struggling to make a significant impact during his first season under Jurgen Klopp, the attacking midfielder has been handed more opportunities under Arne Slot.
He has featured in all 12 of their Premier League games so far, starting nine of those, but has picked up just one goal and two assists in that time.
It required a second-half double from Mohamed Salah for Liverpool to come from 2-1 down at St Mary’s Stadium to secure the win that extends their league lead to eight points.
The Egyptian superstar now has 12 goals in all competitions for Arne Slot’s team this season, as well as 10 assists.
