Tottenham eye Lucas Chevalier transfer as Guglielmo Vicario doubts emerge

Tottenham are keeping tabs on Lucas Chevalier amid doubts over Guglielmo Vicario, according to TBR Football.

The outlet reported via their website on 19 November that Spurs, as well as Chelsea and Manchester United, have been “making checks” on the Lille star, although they are not actively looking for a new number one.

However, there have been doubts over Vicario’s form and the North London giants are prepared to throw their name in the hat for Chevalier if things do not improve for the Italian.

Vicario has been Spurs’ first-choice goalkeeper since arriving from Empoli in the summer of 2023 but has faltered at times.

The 28-year-old was handed a rare start for Italy against France on Sunday [17 November]. However, he looked “unsure” as he conceded three goals, including an own-goal, in a 3-1 loss.

He has also only kept two clean sheets for Tottenham in the Premier League this season.

Ange Postecoglou’s side, therefore, appears to be thinking ahead, with Chevalier viewed as a possible replacement for the Italian.

At 23 years of age, the Frenchman is regarded as one of the most promising goalkeepers in Europe, having kept five clean sheets in 11 Ligue 1 appearances for Lille this term.

However, Chevalier does not seem to be the only goalkeeper on Spurs’ radar as they have also been credited with an interest in Yahia Fofana of Angers [Alan Nixon via The Sun].

The Ivory Coast international is said to be valued at £15million and could be roped in to provide competition for Vicario.

In other Tottenham news, a January bid for this player is on the cards after Spurs sent scouts to watch him.
