Dan Plumley insists that any additional costs after Labour changes in Government will not have a “huge impact” on Tottenham and Daniel Levy.

Chancellor of Exchequer Rachel Reeves announced on 30 October that the National Insurance rates for employers will rise from 13.8 per cent to 15 per cent starting April 2025 (BBC), meaning Levy may need to find an extra £3million each year.

Plumley, a football finance expert, admitted the club can offset those costs with moves of their own, such as the automatic fan charges for Europa League games.

“Ultimately, nobody wants additional cost if you can avoid it,” he exclusively told Tottenham News.

“That is unavoidable though, and £3million in the context of Tottenham is not going to be a significant dent in the finances, that’s for sure.

You’d rather not pay it if you didn’t have to and I think you can look at these things with the bigger picture and lift it up a bit, we talked about the example of the club charging fans automatically for Europa League games, that versus running the risk of not having as many fans on a matchday.

Tottenham hit by new multi-million cost

If you have additional costs to cover, then that net difference is someway to offset some of that cost and that’s just one isolated example, so if you have to cover extra costs, you’re going to have to find ways to squeeze a little bit more out of the revenue line to make it as neutral as it can be.

It’s completely out of the club’s control, of course, but again, in the picture for Tottenham’s finances, it’s something they can manage and it’s not going to have a huge impact.”

With the changes not until next year, matters on the pitch matter more right now.

Tottenham are currently 10th in the Premier League, which isn’t good enough despite only being three points behind Chelsea in third spot – with Champions League always the goal.

In other Tottenham news, the club’s stance on a January transfer for James Maddison has emerged.
