Lilywhite Rose moots Tottenham fringe player to start v Man City amid 'Frustrating' injury news

John Wenham has speculated that Ben Davies could start for Tottenham against Manchester City on Saturday.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has been left frustrated after a recent injury to Cristian Romero.

Spurs are expected to be without Romero for their Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium (23 November) after the centre-back suffered an injury while away with Argentina.

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – trusts Davies to come in and do a job.

“I do wonder whether Davies might come back into the starting lineup against City,” Wenham said.

“In the games he has played, where he has been asked to fill in at centre-back, he has hardly let us down.

“However, from Spurs’ point of view, it is very frustrating to lose Romero to injury.”

Ben Davies to start for Tottenham against Manchester City?

Spurs could be without both Romero and Micky van de Ven for their trip to the Etihad Stadium, just as they were last year.

On that occasion, Davies started alongside Emerson Royal, with Spurs and City drawing 3-3 (3 December 2023). While Spurs didn’t lose the match, they did still concede three goals.

Therefore, fans might understandably be worried about the prospect of Davies starting once again away against the Premier League champions.

However, Ange Postecoglou might be left with little choice but to start the Welshman.

And should the 31-year-old get the nod, he will be desperate to make an impression, especially with his long-term future up in the air.
