Tottenham have sent their “top spies” to watch Valentina Atangana ahead of a potential transfer, according to Alan Nixon.
The journalist reported via his Patreon on 1 December that a plethora of other teams were also interested in the 19-year-old but, alongside Aston Villa, Spurs have “jumped into the race” to acquire his services.
Nixon adds that the other teams who are interested in making a move for the defensive midfielder consist of Everton, Manchester United, Liverpool and Brentford.
Tottenham send scouts to watch Valentin Atangana
As shown by the calibre of the clubs interested in the midfielder, it’s clear that Atangana is an exceptional talent for his age.
He’s been setting Ligue 1 alight this season despite the fact that Stade Reims currently sitting around mid-table.
Spurs already have a fair few options in defensive-midfield with the likes of Archie Gray at their disposal, so, on paper, a move doesn’t seem to make all that much sense.
However, when the ceiling of Atangana is taken into account, it seems silly for Ange Postecoglou not to at least explore the possibility of making a move for the 19-year-old.
France have claimed the nationality of the youngster for now but unless he makes a senior debut for the country, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him make a switch later down the line.
He first broke into Reims’ team in the 2022/23 season and has been ever-present since then. These are all rumours for now, of course, but it’s certainly something fans should get excited about, especially with the rumours of Gray going out on loan in January.
In other Tottenham news, Ange Postecoglou has made a decision about the future of Timo Werner.
