Tottenham next manager: Odds slashed on Potter hire after Postecoglou twist

Tottenham could be set to replace Ange Postecoglou with Graham Potter, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

BetVictor have slashed the odds on the Australian being sacked and replaced by the former Chelsea manager after the 1-1 draw with Rangers on Thursday (12 December). After the game, the pressure on the ex-Celtic was telling as he publicly criticised Timo Werner’s performance in the Europa League tie.

Postecogulou has been under heavy pressure for weeks and Potter was 6/1 to replace him on 22 November.

However, the 49-year-old’s odds have now shortened to 4/1 to replace Postecoglou, suggesting that it is even more likely to happen now.

Postecoglou should be given more time at Tottenham

The Australian deserves to be given time to turn the situation around at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for two reasons.

He is known for an exciting attacking tactical philosophy but has not been given the backing to fully implement it at Spurs.

In the summer, the club brought in the likes of Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert, who are all under 20 years old and their only marquee signing was Dominic Solanke for a fee of £65m.

Postecoglou’s side has also been unlucky with injuries, first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and centre-backs Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies are all out of action for the foreseeable future.

Considering those mitigating factors, the Australian should be given time and moves for the likes of Potter should be put on hold.
