Cristian Romero is thought to be “very frustrated” by his recent injury situation at Tottenham.
Romero suffered a fresh injury setback in Spurs’ 4-3 Premier League defeat against Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday [8 December] and is expected to be out until after the new year as a result [via Gastón Edul, 9 December].
The Argentina international isn’t the only player currently sidelined in North London, with the club set to undergo a behind-the-scenes investigation as a result of their “extraordinary” injury crisis.
Ange Postecoglou will no doubt be frustrated by this situation, with the Australian under increasing pressure and in need of all the help that he can get.
However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – claims Romero himself will be equally as frustrated by this most recent setback.
“It is frustrating that Romero has been ruled out once again,” Wenham said.
“However, I’m sure that he is also very frustrated himself. He returned against Chelsea, and that seemed to really lift the team in the opening 20 minutes before he went off.
“Once he got injured again, that seemed to be the catalyst for the team falling flat. Therefore, we just need to get him back as soon as possible. Losing him is a massive blow.”
Cristian Romero frustrated by injury situation at Tottenham
Romero was only just returning from injury when he suffered a fresh setback against Chelsea. Therefore, that will make this latest blow all the more difficult to stomach, with the 26-year-old seemingly unable to keep himself fit at the moment.
As a result, Radu Drăgușin is the only available senior centre-back, with Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies both also sidelined, which means Postecoglou was left with little choice but to play Archie Gray at centre-back in the 1-1 UEFA Europa League draw with Rangers at Ibrox on Thursday [12 December].
However, despite his inexperience, the 18-year-old was one of the few players who could leave Glasgow with his head held high, and Postecoglou is going to need more performances like that from the youngster in the coming weeks if he is to keep his job, with Daniel Levy expected to make a sack decision next week.
In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou’s future is in doubt after what Son Heung-min was spotted doing against Rangers.
