Tottenham ready surprise John Victor transfer with approach mooted

Tottenham are expected to open talks for Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to Caught Offside.

The news outlet reports [16 December] that the North Londoners are interested in a surprise transfer, with a host of European teams keeping an eye on the Brazilian.

Botafogo are expected to ask for £8million, and Manchester United also have the 28-year-old on their radar.

Spurs are already tipped to sign a new centre-back in January, and it will be interesting to see whether Daniel Levy will also strengthen other positions.

Tottenham could use John Victor as backup

Guglielmo Vicario has been the undisputed starter at the Lilywhites under Ange Postecoglou, but the Italian is currently injured.

The 28-year-old has pulled off some impressive saves over the years and seems to have the backing of the Australian manager.

Fraser Forster has been deployed between the sticks in Vicario’s absence, but the Englishman is 36 years old, and the North Londoners will eventually need to find a replacement.

John Wenham has told Tottenham News that Forster could leave N17 next summer, opening up room for a new goalkeeper to arrive.

Victor is an experienced shot-stopper who has plied his trade in Brazil and Spain and has caught the eyes of several top teams with his performances at Botafogo.

The North London side surely need to add depth to their goalkeeping ranks and find a suitable number two to support Vicario.

Whether Spurs will get a hold of Victor’s signature in the coming months remains to be seen.
