Tottenham could sack multiple members of their backroom staff with the club preparing to undergo an internal investigation, according to a Spurs insider.
Ange Postecoglou is attempting to manage an injury crisis in North London, with multiple players sidelined, particularly in defensive areas, with centre-back Cristian Romero expected to be out until after the new year [via Gastón Edul, 9 December].
As a result, the club are set to undergo a second review of their medical department in less than a year [via The Standard, 12 December].
And Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes behind-the-scenes changes will be made if needed.
“Geoff Scott was Head of Medicine and Sports Science at Tottenham for around 20 years under countless managers,” Wenham said.
“He was replaced, and his replacements were replaced. Therefore, if the people working in those roles aren’t up to the task then absolutely they should be fired.
“We need to be working to continuously improve and move forward as a club. Supporters are paying some of the highest ticket prices in Europe. Therefore, they want to be seeing the best possible players out there, without consistent injury issues and players breaking down because they are being rushed back.
“If people aren’t doing well in their roles, then absolutely they should be sacked and the club should be looking to bring in the best people possible to get the best results across the board.”
Tottenham to sack members of the medical department?
While at surface level an injury doesn’t seem to be necessarily the fault of someone behind the scenes, Spurs do suffer from a ridiculous amount of these issues.
Therefore, it is only fair for the club to investigate their medical department and try to discover where things are going wrong.
And if certain members of staff aren’t up to scratch, then those people should absolutely be moved on.
Spurs’ first-team players are paid very well, and Postecoglou would expect to have those players available to him regularly.
However, that isn’t the case at the moment, and the Australian is under pressure as a result, with Daniel Levy expected to make a sack decision imminently.
And if Postecoglou’s neck is on the line for poor performance, the same should certainly apply to some of the medical team.
In other Tottenham news, the club have held talks as a surprise transfer is lined up.
