Tottenham are set to trigger the one-year option in the contract of Son Heung-min to extend his stay at the club, according to The Telegraph.

The news outlet reports [4 November] that Spurs want to keep hold of the South Korean, whose current deal expires at the end of the 2024/25 season.

In 2021, the forward put pen to paper on a deal until 2025 that gave the Lilywhites a chance to retain his services for an additional campaign.

Son Heung-min the face of Tottenham

Ever since coming to North London from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, the 32-year-old has been an immense player for the team.

The South Korean international formed a formidable partnership with Harry Kane during the striker’s time at the club.

With the striker moving to Bayern Munich, Son has taken up the mantle at Tottenham and has become the face of the club, scoring 17 goals and providing 10 assists in the Premier League last season.

Injuries have hampered the winger’s current campaign, and his absence has been felt, with Ange Postecoglou’s team finding their form now he is back.

Spurs lost to Crystal Palace on 27 October in the league without their captain, and it was his assist against Aston Villa on 3 November that started their comeback in the 4-1 win.

He wasn’t happy to be substituted against Unai Emery’s team, showcasing his commitment.

Son would’ve been higher up in the list of the best players of this generation had he won trophies during his prime, and hopefully, the North Londoners will be able to provide him with a few before the South Korean departs.

The move to trigger the extension could be a way for the Lilywhites to retain some value for the 32-year-old, but fans will undoubtedly be glad to see the forward continuing his exploits in N17.

In other Tottenham news, Pape Matar Sarr makes a case to be an undisputed starter after what he did against Villa.
