Tottenham look set to miss out on a “massive opportunity” to secure a loan deal for Milan Skriniar, Dougie Critchley has said.
Ange Postecoglou has been forced to rely on Archie Gray and Radu Dragusin in a makeshift backline in recent weeks and as a result, Spurs have won just two of their last ten matches in all competitions.
The North London club are desperate for reinforcements at the heart of their defence but Skriniar is set to join Galatasaray on loan [Calciomercato, 26 December]
Sky Sports man Critchley has criticised the Lilywhites for not moving for this Paris Saint-Germain star in a post on X [30 December], saying: “Skriniar is reportedly close to joining Galatasaray on loan.
“A massive missed opportunity for Spurs.
“Season is crumbling due to predictable CB absences, and you have a 29-year-old centre-back who was one of Serie A’s best defenders for close to a decade available on loan”
Tottenham could have done with Skriniar
The Slovakia international would have been a huge help at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with the issues that Spurs currently have.
Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies are all out of action with no confirmed return date and the Lilywhites have rushed them back and aggravated existing problems already this season.
The former Inter Milan star would have brought leadership, experience and solid defensive acumen to Postecoglou’s defence.
There would have been little risk in a loan deal for Skriniar but it appears that Spurs have missed the boat on that deal.
Results need to pick up soon with pressure mounting on the former Celtic manager, which is not easing despite the injury issues that he is facing.
His refusal to compromise on his expansive attacking principles in favour of a more pragmatic defensive approach has not helped his case.
In other Tottenham news, James Maddison has been criticised after hitting back at a fan on social media.
