Two clubs exit race as source issues update on Rangers quest to seal new transfer - report

Cagliari and Sassuolo have pulled out of the race to sign Rangers target Connor Barron this summer, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported on 12 June that a source close to the details claims that nothing has been agreed with regard to the destination of the Scottish midfielder.

It’s understood that there are still several clubs keen on securing the services of the 21-year-old on a free transfer.

The report reads: “A source close to the deal last night insisted that nothing had been agreed and there were still several clubs at the table.

“Italian sides Cagliari and Sassuolo were interested but that has cooled as Claudio Ranieri has stepped down from the former and the latter has been relegated from Serie A.

“Bologna were also watching Barron closely but that hasn’t been firmed up either with their boss Thiago Motta going to Juventus.”

Rangers hold familiarity advantage and must engage in talks with Connor Barron

The Ibrox outfit hold a significant familiarity advantage in the pursuit of Barron, which they must leverage by engaging in talks with the midfielder.

The 21-year-old, having spent his entire career in Scotland, is well-acquainted with the Scottish Premiership, making Gers a potentially appealing destination.

This familiarity could ease his transition, allowing him to quickly adapt and contribute to the team.

Moreover, staying in Scotland might enhance Barron’s chances of being selected for the national team, as his performances would be closely scrutinised by Steve Clarke or whoever succeeds him.

Rangers, as one of the top clubs in the country, would provide a high-profile platform for Barron to showcase his talents and make a case for national team inclusion.

Engaging in talks with Barron could demonstrate the club’s serious interest and commitment to securing his services, potentially swaying his decision in their favour.

In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement will now tell a first-team player to clear out his locker at Ibrox as a development has emerged from Glasgow.
