Two players now expected to sign new contracts at Everton in the coming days - report

Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young are both expected to sign new one-year contracts at Everton in the coming days, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper reported via its website on 12 June that the duo whose deals are running out at the end of this month, will be at Goodison Park for another 12 months.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Idrissa Gueye, Michael Keane, Lewis Dobbin, Joao Virginia and Mason Holgate are the other eight players at the club whose deals expire in June 2025.

Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young cannot be regular starters for Everton in 2024/25

The news of Coleman and Young signing new one-year contracts is positive for the club, as it ensures continuity and experience in the squad.

However, despite this development, it is crucial for the Toffees to recognise that Coleman, 34, and Young, 38, should not be considered regular starters for the 2024/25 season.

Both players have been invaluable assets to the club, but their age and the physical demands of the Premier League suggest that they are better suited to supporting roles rather than being relied upon as consistent starters.

Everton should prioritise integrating younger talents or acquiring new players who can provide the energy and consistency needed for a full season.

This approach will not only ensure that the team remains competitive but also allow Coleman and Young to contribute effectively in a more strategic manner, preserving their experience and leadership for critical moments in the season.

Sean Dyche will also be pushing for younger players but those that can immediately strengthen the first team.

In other Everton news, a £94.2billion update has emerged as the Toffees takeover undergoes yet another twist.
