Scott Burns insists it is “Unacceptable” that Rangers sit third in the Scottish Premiership this season.

The Gers are nine points behind Celtic and 12 behind Aberdeen, although the Dons have played a game more than Philippe Clement’s team.

In the Europa League, the Light Blues are tenth and have a good chance to qualify for the knockout rounds, but that wouldn’t be enough for Burns, who made his feelings clear in the Daily Record [9 November].

“Rangers have a good chance of qualifying for the knockout stage but they still have a long way to go before we can say the corner has been turned,” he said when quizzed on the European antics.

“A distant third in the Premiership is unacceptable.”

Rangers not good enough in Scottish Premiership

When Michael Beale was sacked last season, the Ibrox faithful hoped Clement would bring stability to the club.

The Belgian did precisely that in his first few months in charge, as the Light Blues seemed to be back to their best.

Going into the 2024/25 campaign, supporters wanted to see progress and challenge Celtic in the title race, but that hasn’t been the case.

The Bears have put in unconvincing performances, and losses to Celtic, Kilmarnock and Aberdeen have led to question marks around Clement’s suitability in the dugout.

Defensively, they have looked shaky, and the Belgian manager has failed to bring the best out of his attackers, although players like Cyriel Dessers have frustrated many due to their inconsistency.

It looks inevitable at this point that the Belgian will be relieved of his duties sometime this season, considering the negativity around the head coach.

Clement will need to pull off a miracle and do more than qualify for the knockout rounds of the Europa League to get the fans back on his side.

In other Rangers news, the Ibrox faithful will be in hysterics over what Beale has done recently.
