Chris Waddle has admitted Goodison Park has one of the best atmospheres in English football insisting that games against Everton are “intimidating”.
The Toffees are in their final campaign at their current ground as work continues on the construction of the new Bramley-Moore Stadium, with the Blues set to move into their new home before next season gets underway.
Although the Blues are winless on Merseyside so far this season, BBC Sport pundit Waddle has been quick to heap praise on the Toffees’ support for creating an “unbelievable atmosphere” inside Goodison.
As shared by BBC 5 Live Sport on X (12 September) he said: “Number five is Everton. When it is full it is rocking and it is so intimidating.
“It comes from every side of the ground. Unbelievable atmosphere.”
When do Everton move into their new stadium?
While the majority of Everton supporters will be excited by the idea of moving into the new stadium next term, there will be a collective feeling of disappointment that the Blues’ spell at Goodison Park is coming to an end.
Although the last few seasons at Merseyside have been far from perfect, there have still been some incredible nights that have shown the stadium at its best. Whether that be last season’s win over Liverpool or the final-day survival at the expense of Leicester City.
Toffees fans will just be hoping that Sean Dyche’s side manages to find a way to add a few more historic moments between now and the end of the season, especially after their miserable start to the campaign both home and away.
Whatever happens this season, Everton have to ensure that their new ground isn’t playing host to Championship football next term.
Once Premier League survival has been secured, then the Toffees can begin to consider how they can transport Goodison’s intimidating atmosphere to Bramley-Moore.
