Jefte continues to impress after his arrival at Rangers in the summer and his crossing his proven to be “unbelievable” at time, says Kris Boyd.

The Sky Sports pundit told Roger Hannah for the Scottish Sun’s Go Ballistic show on 23 September that he is pleased with how Deadline Day signing Nedim Bajrami has done so far, but more so by Brazilian left-back Jefte who was thrust into a regular starting spot this term by injury to Ridvan Yilmaz.

He is not sold on centre-back signing Robin Propper though who continues to look unconvincing, but after a welcome 3-0 win over Dundee in the League Cup in the first game back at Ibrox, a return which Boyd says was a “massive boost”, he thinks things are looking up.

Boyd said when asked about Bajrami being a plus point (9m): “100 per cent. When you bring in new players you want them to hit the ground running and I think Bajrami has done that.

“I must say as well Roger, Jefte has got something on that left-hand side, he fires some unbelievable balls in.

“Propper I’m still not fully convinced about but I think for Rangers going forward there’s enough there, they’re creating opportunities, it’s a building block for Rangers.”

Some positive results have made all the difference after a miserable loss to Celtic sent the Light Blues into the international break in turmoil.

The gap to their Old Firm rivals still looks daunting but all Philippe Clement can do with a squad which seemed only partially overhauled in the summer is to take one game at a time and look to build some momentum.

Two wins and two clean sheets, coupled with the return to Ibrox, was the start he needed in that process, and crucially some of the new signings are impressing.

Jefte may only be 20 but if he can stay fit he will already have a huge leg up on Yilmaz who is so regularly ruled out, and physically looks an improvement as well.

The main asset that was lost with Borna Barisic’s exit was his delivery from the left to compliment James Tavernier’s from the right, so if Jefte can start to produce that as well the youngster could be a vital long-term addition.

After so much anticipation over the international break Bajrami’s anonymous 45-minute debut at Tannadice a week ago was a huge disappointment, but the Albanian may have just taken some time to get going as he was much better against the other side of Dundee at the weekend.

Propper, however, remains a concern at present as the 30-year-old continues to look uncertain in a backline that has been lacked a commanding presence for at least a year as Connor Goldson’s form fell away, with Boyd even suggesting his was “soft” live on Sky Sports on 15 September.

The Dutchman was supposed to be the new senior leader in the centre of the defence but hasn’t looked a huge improvement on Ben Davies so far after the Englishman’s loan exit to Birmingham City, let alone Goldson, and will have to improve as he gets more established or he’ll join the list of transfer mishaps in recent seasons.

In other Rangers news, a suspicion has been issued why the Light Blues were rejected by the frontrunner to be the new CEO last minute.
